Happy NaPoWriMo!

We’re four days in to another NaPoWriMo (National Poetry Writing Month), and I’m already two poems behind. But after successfully writing 30 poems in November for the first time, I have faith that I can do it again. If you’re interested in doing it, too, check out the official NaPoWriMo blog for prompts and news. And if you want a little inspiration, or to participate in National Poetry Month without actually writing poetry, you can sign up for daily poems at poets.org. I’ve signed up for them because I don’t read nearly enough poetry, which is why writing it continues to be a challenge.

So, that’s part one of my plan for that vast open-ness that was once April. Part two is to continue working on short stories. Right now I’m working on a Rumplestiltskin retelling, but I have about half a dozen short story ideas that have been gathering dust in my brain for over a year now. I think I’m going to commit to them for a while, although writing short stories is even a bigger challenge to me than writing poetry. But I’m a little novel’d out at the moment.

Plus, I want to save all my novel-ing energy for continuing to submit my novel, which is part three of my writing plan for the future. I got some helpful critiques from my writers group via a webcam meeting last Friday and will send the package out to another agency this week. Another highlight from that meeting: one of our members has found a publisher for her werewolf novel set on Isle Royale. I can’t wait to post pics from the book release party!
